Sri Lanka – Wings of hope
Wings of Hope works in vulnerable and marginalised communities, empowering women and children to recognise their worth, dignity, and potential. Through compassionate, community-based programmes, we support families living in disadvantaged communities and daily wage-earning families in the tea plantations of Hatton, helping them build brighter and more sustainable futures.
Our programmes strengthen families and communities through education, health and nutrition, skills training, income generation, and awareness workshops. By addressing both immediate needs and long-term development, we help create lasting change that impacts generations.
Founded in 2013 by Rebecca Alexander, Wings of Hope was born out of personal experience and a deep desire to give back. As the daughter of tea plantation workers, Rebecca herself was sponsored as a child through a similar programme. The opportunities she received enabled her to excel academically, train as an English teacher, and later serve marginalised children through her work with a local NGO.
Having witnessed firsthand the transformative power of sponsorship and support, Rebecca established Wings of Hope to offer that same hope and opportunity to other children and families. Today, Wings of Hope continues to empower communities, restore dignity, and inspire lasting change—one life at a time.

Our Projects
Mukti Australia works closely with our Sri Lankan partner, Wings of Hope (WOHL), to develop, fundraise, and implement sustainable development projects.
Our projects focus on increasing the capacity of WOHL to support and empower disadvantaged and vulnerable women and children, both now and well into the future. This includes supporting disadvantaged children living in the capital city of Colombo, as well as whole families from tea-picking communities living in poverty conditions in rural areas.
