Fueling Dreams and Building Futures
True freedom means giving young people the Freedom to Grow into their full potential.
At Mukti India, children escaping extreme poverty, exploitation, and abuse find safe shelter, education, and a loving community to help them overcome their past. While Mukti India’s primary and secondary schools lay a strong academic foundation, tertiary education remains an impossible dream for families living on less than $380 a year. For youth in remote, underserved regions where education divides leave bright minds isolated—higher education remains far out of reach. Without access to degrees or vocational training, poverty casts a long shadow, dimming the potential of young people capable of leading their communities forward.
Through the Tertiary Education Fund, you can step in alongside bright, aspiring scholars like Seema* (pursuing Commerce) and Lita* (pursuing Nursing), while expanding higher education access to youth from underserved regions. Your support does far more than pay for tuition – it breaks generational poverty and help raise India’s next generation of nurses, finance leaders, social workers, doctors, and engineers.
Give the Gift of Higher Education
*All gifts $2 and over will receive a tax-deductible receipt.
In the event of oversubscription, funds will be allocated to a similar purpose or ‘where most needed’ in India or Sri Lanka as designated

Restoring dignity, freedom to re-build.
Following the severe Cyclone Ditwah in Nov 2025, vulnerable families have been left entirely exposed by devastating structural damage and compounding global economic pressures that have driven local living costs to unprecedented heights.
To help affected households rebuild, recover, and get their lives back, help our partner deliver food packs, essential household items and urgent home or roof restoration.
Extending the freedom to thrive with education
Education unlocks the vital pathway for children to step into their full potential, breaking the cycle of rural isolation. With our main Hope Centre in Hatton currently operating at full capacity to serve 220 children, we are stepping in to actively expand our reach to underserved families.
These satellite outreach hubs serve to extend the impact of proven educational support, nutrition, and care frameworks directly into isolated tea plantation communities, while setting up localised learning environments that allow us to move past current capacity limits and protect the next generation of children.
At the heart of WOHL is a deep understanding of the challenges faced by single parents. Balancing demanding work hours with the responsibility of caring for their children, including covering essential needs like education and healthcare, can be overwhelmingly stressful. We recognize the heavy weight on single parents to manage everything alone, especially when children are young and dependent.
This project offers a lifeline and vital support to these parents. But we don’t stop there – we empower single parents through skill development and training, enhancing their earning potential and self-sufficiency.
Your contribution to the Single Parent Project is an investment in hope and a brighter future. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these dedicated parents and their children.
Right now, select families of the Wings of Hope Lanka programme, alongside highly vulnerable households in neighbouring outreach areas, are living in homes with severely makeshift and compromised conditions. Living in these conditions strips parents and children of their basic security and dignity, keeping families trapped in a cycle of survival.
Through this active project, we are stepping in to provide critical shelter, giving a community’s most-at-risk children the security they need to grow, flourish and thrive. More than just mixing concrete, your generosity grants these families the freedom to live with true dignity.
Giving children the foundational freedom to grow.
True freedom begins with education – breaking the poverty cycle, protecting children from abusive labour, and nurturing their potential. Today, after years of faithful service, our ageing campus buildings are structurally failing. Core school facilities and classrooms are in urgent need of repair and renewal.
To ensure our schools remain a trusted anchor and the freedom of education stays accessible for 2,300 students, we are stepping in to:
Securing long term foundation to self-sustain.
Critical infrastructure updates are underway to replace an outdated sewerage system at the main Mukti campus that is no longer safe or viable. Planning and construction have begun on a large new concrete tank which incorporates the installation of a comprehensive effluent treatment system, replacing the failing setup with a highly sustainable solution to actively manage waste and protect the surrounding environment. Once processed, the water will be used to safely irrigate certain crops on the Mukti farm, helping to preserve the precious water supply.

The foundational freedom to live with dignity.
Many tea estate workers’ families live in rows of tiny “houses” called “lines”, sharing toilets with other families or lacking basic bathing facilities. For them, a simple shower means a long walk to a stream, often in the dark. Young girls are especially vulnerable, forced to bathe before sunrise or in the open rain, sometimes even in the open.
Dina*, a bright young girl lives on a hilltop in Kudaoya. Like many of the families in the area, Dina’s family struggles with basic necessities. Every day, Dina joins her mother and grandmother on a gruelling 2km walk to collect water for their household. Bathing happens by the river, exposed and vulnerable. Even at home, with limited water, privacy is a luxury Dina cannot afford.
Your support does more than lay pipes and mix concrete. It removes a daily threat of abuse, protects young girls and grant families the basic freedom to live with dignity!
Giving marginalised children the foundational freedom to thrive.
In underserved regions of India, many children continue to be left behind, with the deepest divide beginning with a lack of access to education.
Our hostels for children serve to remove the geographic barrier to education, providing a nurturing home away from home, so girls and boys can consistently attend school.
Today these ageing hostels are stretched far past capacity and in poor condition.
Crucial operational and living spaces, including the kitchen, dining hall, sanitation blocks, living spaces, and staff quarters, can no longer meet basic needs and are in desperate need of updating. Because the physical infrastructure cannot expand, we are forced to turn away a growing waiting list of children who have no other safe place to live while attending school.
We are stepping in to rebuild and expand these facilities from the ground up, giving marginalised children the foundational freedom to thrive.
Your support brings this freedom to life, shifting the trajectory to break the cycle of systemic neglect.

Your donation can change this. By funding private bathing areas, we can create safe havens where children and women can wash with dignity, reduce the risk of abuse, and enjoy the basic right to privacy.
The expansion of the road adjacent to the Mission has severely compromised the security and privacy of its residents. Despite attempts to have the road diverted, construction has proceeded, resulting in an elevated roadway that directly overlooks the facilities, exposing our residents, particularly vulnerable women and children, to increased risks of intrusion and compromised safety.
To overcome this situation, the existing compound walls and security fencing will need to be rebuilt. This includes increasing the height of the wall and fencing on both sides of the road affecting the frontage main campus entrance and access to the homes for the elderly ladies and visually challenged ladies. The new walls will shield our community from the intrusive effects of the elevated road.
Our projects focus on increasing access to quality education for communities, transforming lives and fostering brighter future.
Initiatives may include renovation and repainting aged and unsafe school facilities, including repairing roofs to create safe and more conducive learning environments.
This ongoing project is all about maximising the yield from Mukti’s 160 acres of farmland. It includes utilising sustainable, organic agriculture methods and maintaining farm machinery and equipment. It includes plans to build a large dam and contouring of the land to maximise collection of rainwater that falls on the property, especially during monsoon season.
Many of the grain crops, fruit and vegetables are vital for supplying Mukti’s kitchens. Surplus grains and sugar cane can be sold to produce income.
Blessed with abundant sunshine most of the year, Mukti Mission has a fantastic opportunity to embrace clean energy. Solar panels are a cost-effective way to power the campus, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and transitioning towards a sustainable future.
Several exciting solar projects have been identified to bring renewable energy to different parts of the Mission, including the Junior College and possibly the Hospital and residential homes.
Thanks to the generosity of Australian donors, the Hope Centre is a beacon of education and empowerment in the Hatton community, providing a vital lifeline for 200 children and their families. These children, from families facing poverty and instability, currently receive academic support, a nutritious meal twice a week, and enriching activities that promote holistic development.
These children, from families facing poverty and instability, currently receive academic support, a nutritious meal twice a week, and enriching activities that promote holistic development. For many, Hope Centre is not just a place to learn, but a safe haven.
The Hope Centre has reached a wonderful turning point! We need to expand!
Due to overwhelming demand for the programmes, the Centre is bursting at the seams and require more space to continue serving children and families. We are evaluating exciting possibilities for expansion including adding an additional floor or building new, which may be necessary as the current building’s foundation might not support additional floors. The added space will allow more regular meals and learning support, dedicated classrooms, and expanded women’s and men’s empowerment programs – all to create a brighter future for the entire community.
